If you have a serious hobby, an interest in a particular point in history or maybe a passion for collecting a particular item then it is likely that you have boxes and boxes of information and treasures on your chosen subject. If you’re very lucky you might even have a study, or even a special hobby room to indulge your obsession however many people will have to make do with stashing their precious possessions in either the attic or the garage.
Well, here’s an idea which you just might manage to get past your other half: if the collection lends itself to display then how about creating a themed bedroom? I do not fancy your chances of this being the master bedroom, however, what harm could you do in the spare bedroom which is currently just sporting a couple of boring old divan beds and no particular decorating style at all? I have seen this done with fantastic effect in a Rock’n'Roll bedroom by a fan of all things 50’s.
One of the main reasons this came about was the need for proper storage of a valuable collection of vintage electric guitars which would not have been happy in a damp garage. Polished and hung on the wall they now form a dramatic display which sets the tone for the whole interior. Perfect for the average rock god to get a good night’s sleep, and already the look is coming together. Unwanted old 12’’ vinyl records can be very decorative too. Mount on the wall, use on top of tables or even stack to make interesting models. If your vinyl is precious however then it is probably all about the record sleeves so frame the best ones you have and hang them proudly on the wall.
Keep the rest of the decor neutral so your prized possessions can really shine and enjoy the reaction you get from overnight guests – you will never be short of conversation!
